A devastating fire at the Waterloo Station Hotel in Adelaide’s northern suburbs was the catalyst for a $10 million renovation that engaged the services of hospitality flooring experts, Artistic Flooring.

Ken Milne from Ken Milne Architects in Adelaide was the lead designer on the project, charged with bringing the popular waterhole back to life.

“Carpets are one of the biggest design elements in a room, so I always aim to create something that gives a room a lift, a positive energy, and I think this design achieves that,” Ken said, “It also had to translate through the bistro, dining and gaming areas so we needed something that was versatile.”

Ken said that while looks are important, a carpet’s design must also take into account practical considerations.

“It’s important when designing carpet for a hospitality venue, that your design minimises the appearance of stains,” Ken said, “Carpet stains are unavoidable in hotels and bars so you have to work with that reality in mind.”

Ken said he had only good things to report about his experience working with our team from Artistic Flooring.

“Artistic Flooring were excellent to work with, and the finished result impressed us all,” Ken said, “Most importantly, it impressed the client.”
